First of all, let me tell you what I am not. I am not a professional personal trainer, I am not a professional dietician, and you won’t find me on any late night infomercials around three o’clock in the morning pitching some miraculous pill that miraculously banishes your cellulite.
I’m just like you. I had cellulite. But rather than accepting I was probably genetically predisposed to having bumps on my thighs and rear end because my mother and aunt also had cellulite, I wanted to see if there was some way to beat the bumps. Why Should You Listen to Me, Anyway?
Now that I’ve told you what I am not, let me tell you a little about who I am. I’ve worked as an office manager (and freelance writer on the side) for about 10 years now. Because of my job, I live a fairly sedentary lifestyle, which I’m sure contributed to my cellulite problem. I’d lived with my cellulite for many years and was resigned to thinking it was just a fact of life. But about two years ago, I hit a low point. I had gained weight, my cellulite looked worse than ever, and my self-esteem had plummeted. I was sick of feeling ashamed of my body, sick of having to wear bulky clothes even in hot weather… and sick of hearing there was nothing I could do about my cellulite. I had had enough. So I decided to just get down and get busy. I was going to figure out how to get rid of my cellulite once and for all.
You’ve seen it on your mother, your aunt, your sister, and even strangers at the beach and other public places. It has a number of different names such as “orange peel butt” and “cottage cheese thighs.” But did you ever wonder where exactly the term “cellulite” came from? Conventional wisdom says that the term was coined in France in 1973 to refer to the dimpled appearance of the skin on the hips, thighs, and buttocks.
Heredity and Diet
Until the past 20 years, little was known about cellulite other than it was extremely difficult to get rid of once it had a hold of your buttocks and thighs. Modern scientific studies have yielded a good number of facts about cellulite that your mom and auntie were never privy to, that your genes actually do play a part in whether or not you are more likely to develop cellulite. Yes, you really can inherit your Aunt Edna’s thighs; but you don’t have to be stuck with them. Your genetics playing a factor in your likelihood to have cellulite, but what you eat is an even more important factor. And that’s actually great news, because it means all you need to do is make a few simple changes in your daily routine, and you CAN eliminate your cellulite.
I’ll go over the foods most likely to contribute to cellulite in later chapters, and tell you exactly what changes to make so you see incredible results quickly.
But suffice it to say for now that modern humans for all their strides in technology have some of the worst diets in history. Our diets are the number one cause of most of our health-related ills. With obesity at record levels and diabetes numbers exploding, there’s never been a better time to get educated about nutrition and eat for health and when you’re hungry and not when you’re bored.
If you’re not sure if you’re in line for cellulite, here’s a very simple test you can do: Get a pen and paper and write down the name of ever relative on both sides of your family that you can recall having cellulite. You may have to visualize pool parties and other family gatherings, but you should be able to compile a fairly healthy-sized list.

Cellulite is one of the most common yet misunderstood problems plaguing women today. While it is certainly prevalent in overweight women, it can affect women who are of a healthy weight as well as women who might even be considered underweight.
Supermodel Tyra Banks is not only one of the most successful and beautiful women in the world; she is also affected by cellulite. “I have cellulite, not just on my booty, but on my arms. The Structure of Cellulite
If you’re wondering exactly what cellulite is, I’ll tell you: it’s fat. But it’s not exactly the same fat that you have in other areas of your body. There are three layers of fat found in the body. The layer of fat closest to the skin is where our nasty little friend likes to take up residence. But why there? And why is it so hard to evict? Scientists believe cellulite begins with the accumulation of swollen fat cells. These cells press on the connective fibers that surround them, causing the fibers to bend and pull the connected skin downward. Thus, the dreaded puckered appearance.
It Takes More Than Just Losing Weight
Modern scientific studies point strongly to the fact that cellulite can’t be cured with a magical pill. Cellulite is located beneath the layers of your skin where creams simply can’t penetrate. Other studies have proven that you can lose weight, and you can firm up your body, but it takes more than that to get rid of your cellulite permanently. And that’s what I’ll be sharing with you in the Cellulite Revealed plan.
